Welcome to James M. Landeen, M.D.
Diplomate - American Board of Plastic Surgery

My name is James M. Landeen. I am a plastic surgeon. I am a board certified plastic surgeon, certified by THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY. In these particular times, many surgeons can imply they are plastic surgeons, but there is only one certification that counts: THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY. There may be some boards that look like THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY, but THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY is the only one that distinguishes surgeons who are doing plastic surgery. The path traveled to be eligible for the board exam for the AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY is different. It is hard, difficult, long, and demanding. Those that complete the journey are proud of the accomplishment. Plastic surgeons operating under the AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY have complete hospital privileges for the practice of hand surgery, micro- surgery, congenital defects, trauma, reconstructive, and cosmetic. They have respect from surgeons operating in other specialties such as general, orthopedic, urology, chest, vascular and often are operating partners on difficult cases.

The cosmetic privileges are not limited. It is essentially: "skin and contents." Plastic surgeons can elect a cosmetic practice. It is not unusual to drift to this position to express yourself in an artistic manner. My other “soap box” position in the practice of plastic surgery is in cosmetic cases. It is not a "party". It is serious surgery with the same techniques and risks as other surgery. Cosmetic surgery should be regarded and prepared for as any surgical case you have been trained for.

I was born in a small town in Wyoming as the fifth son of an immigrant father from Sweden who had an 8th grade education. I was raised with integrity, word of honor, and the steady influence of education. The Univ. of Wyoming served for my undergraduate education; medical school at the Univ. of Missouri, and the final sojourn of the educational process was at the Univ. of Florida where I did my residency in plastic surgery. I was discharged honorably from the USNR-R at the rank of Commander. I served a total of ten years in active and active duty reserves. My practice of plastic surgery in San Antonio, Texas has been in the same office space, with the same phone number for over 25 years.
